Principal Changes of the November 9, 2017 Release

US release date: 11/9/2017

AUS/EU release date: 11/10/2017 (expected)

In this release, we’ve expanded our StoryBuilder functionality by giving you the ability to connect people labels in a Chronology to fully customizable people profiles. This allows you to store professional history and relationships for the people most relevant to your case. Users with uploader permissions will also have access to a reprocessing tool for non-Everlaw-processed documents that includes the option to regenerate document metadata. Finally, we’ve made updates to our production protocol feature to make your production workflows even smoother!

Have questions about the new features? Feel free to reach out to support@everlaw.com! Release season is also the perfect time to schedule a brief Q&A session about Everlaw’s new features. If you’d like to sign up for one, click here.

People profiles in Chronology

You now have the ability to create and customize people profiles in a Chronology. You can add a profile by clicking on the People icon in your Chronology toolbar, or by creating a people label on the left-hand side of your Chronology. You can add a photo, social media links, job information, and notes to each profile.

Clicking on “+New job” lets you create a new entry in the person’s work history. You can even list a person’s colleagues or supervisors, or attach an Outline to the profile. Find out more about people profiles in this help article.

[Uploaders only] Reprocess non-Everlaw-processed documents

Have you ever received a production from opposing counsel that contained loose PDFs with no text versions, or TIFFs instead of searchable PDFs? Users with uploader permissions can now reprocess documents via the results table, even if they weren’t originally processed by Everlaw. This is an extension of our previous on-platform processing feature, which allowed users with uploader permissions to reprocess documents as long as the documents were originally processed by Everlaw.

To access this feature, click the Export icon on your results table toolbar, navigate to the Process tab, and click on “Non-Everlaw Processed.”

You’ll have two options about which formats you would like to generate when reprocessing:

  • PDFs & Text: This option will generate new images for your documents. If the documents do not have natives, existing images/PDFs will be converted to searchable PDFs, preserving Bates stamps. If the documents have natives, new PDFs and text formats will be generated from the native, discarding Bates stamps and other features not present in the native.
  • Text: This option will extract text and metadata from natives or images/PDF. This will not change or replace any existing PDFs or images.

Reprocessing also gives you options for handling document metadata. You can opt out of changing metadata or merge existing metadata with new metadata generated from document natives.

Please note that if you reprocess documents for any format, the underlying original files will become inaccessible, and the version that you see on the platform will no longer exactly match what the producing party provided.

You can find out more about reprocessing in the reprocessing article.

Write longer code endorsements with multi-line text functionality

You can now include multiple lines of text in your code endorsements during production. To learn about the steps for creating code endorsements, see this article.
