Smart recommendations are customizable, permissions-based recommendations that aim to guide users through Everlaw by pointing them to specific features, workflows, and best practices to meet their goals. This article will show you how to enable recommendations and tailor them to your particular needs and use cases.
Note
Smart recommendations are intended to be an evolving feature, designed to assist you in your Everlaw learning journey. As such, we strongly encourage and appreciate all user feedback. Your input will allow us to shape the future of in-platform learning for users like you. Submit your feedback

Enable or disable smart recommendations
Smart recommendations are currently enabled by default for new users only, but all users can turn on recommendations from the help menu icon on the homepage. Recommendation preferences are saved across all your projects.
To enable, disable, or customize smart recommendations:
- Select the help button, located in the page navigation bar, to open the help menu.
- Select the settings button.
This opens the Recommendation settings dialog. - To enable or disable recommendations entirely, switch on/off the Display recommendations in platform toggle.
- [Optional] If recommendations are switched on, you can also select a subset of pages for which you want to see recommendations. This selection will be applied to all your projects, and you can change it at any time.
Tip
If you’re not sure which recommendations you’d like to see, you can select Default recommendation, which includes only a small number of highly valuable recommendations. This is the set of recommendations that will be enabled by default for new users.
- When you’re ready, select Done.
Recommendation types
Some recommendations appear as a single popup, pointing out a button or page setting that you may not have noticed.
An example of this is our recommendation showing users how to access search grouping settings. The popup points to the Settings button on a results table and says:
“Now that you’ve created a search, you may want to group your results to add further context. You can group documents by duplicates, attachment family, and more from Settings.”
Other recommendations are multi-step and walking users through a short tutorial flow.
An example of this is our recommendation to use Data Visualizer to explore search results. The popup points to Visualize from a results table and says:
“Select Visualize to explore the characteristics of search results at a glance and filter by particular attributes. The visualizer is particularly useful for early data exploration or iterative search building.”
Selecting Next takes the user from a results table to the data visualizer page.
View and trigger recommendations
To see all smart recommendations that have already been triggered by your actions:
- Select the help button. Then select View all recommendations.
This opens the Recommendations dialog. - [Optional] To trigger a recommendation flow from this dialog, select a recommendation from the table. Then select Go to page.
Note
Recommendations that you dismissed or haven’t yet seen are marked with a green dot.
Recommended articles and videos
Recommended video and article resources related to the page you’re currently on can be found in the help menu’s RESOURCES section.
To search and discover additional resources from this menu, select View all help resources.
This opens Everlaw’s help menu dialog.
Smart recommendation project settings
By default, smart recommendations are enabled for all projects. Project Admins can choose to disable this setting; however, individual users may choose to override this default from their own help menus. This setting is templatizable, meaning that when you create a new database and copy settings from a previous project, this setting will be included.
To enable or disable smart recommendations at the project level:
- Go to Project Management > Project Settings > General.
- Switch the Show smart recommendations for all users in this project by default toggle on or off.
List of smart recommendations
All smart recommendations that can appear are listed here by workflow. They will only appear in your recommendation list in the help menu if you’ve already met the criteria for them to be triggered.
