Storybuilder People Profiles

People profiles help you keep track of the key individuals involved in your case. In a profile, you can record a person’s contact information, work history, work relationships with other people, and more.

When you create a profile for someone in Storybuilder, it creates a label you can use to keep track of the evidence, depositions, Facts, and other key people that the person is associated with. This helps your team create a clear and consistent storyline for your case.

Requirements

To access the People page: Anyone with access to the Story can view the People page.

To create, edit, and delete People profiles: Users must have Edit or Full Access permission on the Story.

Learn more about Storybuilder permissions in our Administer Storybuilder Permissions article.

Access the People page

To get to the People page, go to Storybuilder > People.

The left panel lists all the existing people. Select a person's name to view their profile.

Create a person and profile

You can add people and create profiles for them individually or in bulk via an import.

To create a new profile individually:

  1. Select + New Person

This opens the New person dialog.
  2. Add your person's name. If the person is a custodian in your project already, select the name from the dropdown menu. Otherwise, type in the name and hit Enter on your keyboard.
  3. Select Add to add the person. This creates an empty profile for them.
For each profile, you can add:
  • A profile image: select the Edit profile image and social media links  button and then Replace image to add the image
  • Social media links: Select + Add social link to add a link
  • Emails addresses: Under Other email addresses, select the Add email address button to enter an email address
  • Notes: Type in the Notes field. It is saved automatically
  • Drafts or Depositions associated with the person: Select the Add Deposition/Add Draft  button and select the Deposition/Draft to associate
  • Job history: To add a job:
    1. Select New Job in the left hand panel
    2. Fill out the basics: Enter the Job title and Organization (company)
    3. When you're done, select Add job.
    4. [Optional] Enter any of the following:
      • Date range: The date range for the job
      • Email addresses: Email addresses associated with the job
      • Reports to: The manager(s) at the job
      • Works alongside: Colleagues/coworkers
      • Manages: People reporting to this person

Import profiles

To create one or more profiles at once, import a CSV that includes the information for the profiles. First, download the CSV template to fill out. To do so, select + New person, which opens the New person dialog. Then, select Download CSV template.

Fill out the downloaded template with information for the relevant fields. For each person, all the fields other than Name are optional:

  • Name (required)
  • Notes
  • Other Email Address
  • Role
  • Organization
  • Begin (must be formatted as month/day/year or year/month/day)
  • End (must be formatted as month/day/year or year/month/day)
  • Work Email Addresses
  • Reports To
  • Works Alongside
  • Manages

Duplicate names in the CSV file will be treated as the same person, and upon import the information will be consolidated under a single Person profile.

You cannot import a profile with a name that already exists in your Storybuilder People.

When you're ready to import the CSV:

  1. Select + New person.
  2. In the Import from CSV field, add your CSV.
  3. Select Add. This adds the people and any information from your CSV into their profiles.

Reference people throughout Storybuilder

Each person that you add on the People page is available as a label. You can add them as a label to:

  • Evidence on the Evidence page
  • Testimony highlights
  • Facts
  • As a deponent on a Deposition

Delete a profile

To remove a profile, select the Delete profile button, then select Remove. This will also remove the label from the People category and any evidence or Facts it was applied to. If you created the profile by selecting a custodian, this does NOT delete the custodian from any documents.
