Manage Ad Hoc Translation

Machine translation can help your team identify documents that may require further review.

Everlaw offers two ways to translate non-English text using machine translation: our standard, all-access ad hoc translation functionality and Everlaw AI’s stored batch translation tool — Everlaw Translate. This article focuses on ad hoc translation, which allows users to translate text on an in-the-moment basis for individual documents.

In this article we’ll show Project Admins how to manage the feature’s settings.

If this feature is already enabled for your organization and you’re looking for instructions on how to use it visit Ad Hoc Translation for Non-English Language Text.

Requirements

You must be a Project Admin to manage a project’s ad hoc translation settings.

Machine translation providers, data security, and privacy

Non-English documents are translated within Everlaw’s secure environment using either Google Translate or Amazon Translate. The following sections provide information on each translation service:

  • Google Translate:
    • Google does not permanently store any data related to its enterprise translation services. To learn more, visit Google’s FAQ on data confidentiality.
    • For EU and UK Customers, if you select Google Cloud Translate, your translation data is routed through the EU Endpoint rather than the global or US endpoint.

    Note

Google Translate is not available in Everlaw GovCloud. For more information, visit Comparing Your Public Sector Cloud Options

  • Amazon Translate:
    • To understand Amazon’s data confidentiality policies, visit Amazon’s FAQ on data privacy.
    • Everlaw has opted out of allowing user translation data to be used for developing Amazon Translate or other AWS AI tools.

You may also opt out of using machine translation on your project.

Select your machine translation provider

To select your machine translation provider:

  1. Go to Project Management > Project Settings.
  2. Select Everlaw AI. Then select Machine translation to open the Machine translation page.
  3. In the Translation provider field, select either AWS Translate or Google Translate.

    Note

Your translation provider may already be set at the organization level, in which case it cannot be modified on the project level.

Now what? It's time for your team to start translating documents. To learn how to get started, visit Ad Hoc Translation for Non-English Language Text.

Disable machine translation

To disable machine translation, follow the steps listed under Select your machine translation provider, and select No translation.
