Non-English Language Translation: An Overview

Everlaw offers two ways to translate non-English text using machine translation:

• Ad Hoc Translation: our standard, all-access non-English translation functionality
• Everlaw Translation: Everlaw AI’s stored batch translation tool

This article will help you choose the best option for your team and direct you to the appropriate resources to get started. It also includes links to external resources for the available machine translation providers, as well as a list of all Everlaw-supported non-English languages.

The following table outlines the key differences between Everlaw’s two translation features:

If you choose to go with Everlaw’s standard ad hoc translation functionality:

If you choose to go with Everlaw Translation:

Language detection

Non-English language detection takes place at the time of document upload. For a complete list of supported languages, visit this article’s section titled Supported non-English languages.

Language detection is automatic and independent of text translation.

Machine translation providers, data security, and privacy

Non-English documents are translated within Everlaw’s secure environment using either Google Translate or Amazon Translate. The following sections provide information on each translation service:

• Google Translate:
  • Google does not permanently store any data related to its enterprise translation services. To learn more, visit Google’s FAQ on data confidentiality.
  • For EU and UK Customers, if you select Google Cloud Translate, your translation data is routed through the EU Endpoint rather than the global or US endpoint.
  • Google Translate is not available in Everlaw GovCloud. For more information, visit Comparing Your Public Sector Cloud Options

• Amazon Translate:
  • To understand Amazon’s data confidentiality policies, visit Amazon’s FAQ on data privacy.
  • Everlaw has opted out of allowing user translation data to be used for developing Amazon Translate or other AWS AI tools.
